The project that gave my curiosity a direction
IEEE mentoring helped me find a practical route back into engineering. With guidance from Ferdous Wahid, I learned to look for research papers, read what others had done and begin with a manageable problem. The streetlight project became that beginning: one requirement, one unfamiliar component and one lesson at a time.
I had broad interests, including robotic and prosthetic hands, but needed a starting point I could actually build. The streetlight gave me a sequence of concrete questions instead of an overwhelming final goal.
When I needed to control a motor, I learned about motor drivers. When the design needed another motion or sensor, I learned that next. Research began to feel less like knowing everything and more like learning how to take the next useful step.
