Learning to bring the parts together
I began as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at SSDL in January 2021. Small assignments grew into larger collaborative projects. I gradually took more responsibility for planning the work, coordinating the different contributions and helping mechanical, electronic and software parts function as a whole.
My supervisor gave us problems to work through and opportunities to build trust through the work. The poultry-robot programme became a turning point in that experience.
My contribution depended on my teammates. Planning was important, but so were the people making parts, sourcing components and working through the details with me.
